Product: LAS
Crop Protection in the Mediterranean countries faces several challenges due to the need to apply more environmentally friendly solutions and cope with the climatic crisis, which may cause high levels or unexpected emergence of insect populations. Two of the most important pests in the Mediterranean region are the olive fruit fly in olives and the Medfly in citrus, peaches and other fruit crops. The currently applied pest control methods more and more often result in failures and yield losses, with the risk for chemical residues in the products and environmental impacts. To handle these serious shortcomings the Location Aware System (LAS) product can provide farmers with the solutions they need for effective pest control. The pest monitoring is based on electronic traps to timely collect pest data and then decisions are taken for sprayings using Integrated Pest Management DSS. The farmers receive spraying alerts together with pest risk maps showing the areas to be sprayed and the intensity of spraying. E-services offer in-field advice for real time guided spraying applications to apply pesticides with precision only when and where is required. Finally, tracking of spraying activities are also available.
